Canadian Bhutanese Society Celebrates Dashain.
More than 400 community members have gathered to celebrate the annual Hindu festival Dashain at Lethbridge Senior citizens Organization hall. An evening filled with cultural music, dance and traditional snacks.
The official program began with Canadian National Anthem followed by lighting of lamp by Hemlal Timsina President of Canadian Bhutanese Society along with Pandit Madhu Sudan Dhakal. The program continued on with a traditional Dzongkha welcome dance by the children.
The festival gathering is an avenue where young people can come and show their talent as well as promote their culture. It is also an opportunity for some children to perform for the first time and learn from their elders.
The volunteer dancer worked hard to make this event a grand celebration in spite of their busy work schedule. Community youth group also prepared traditional snacks to raise funds for the upcoming western Canada sports and cultural program. The momos, Samosas and chatpatey, delicious traditional snacks were enjoyed by most party goers during the evening. Most of the members showcased colourful traditional dresses an occasion reminded all of us like we are in back home in the village.
CBS also honoured eighty one volunteers who have volunteered their time to the community. Teachers who volunteered to educate the new arrival for driver education and citizenship classes. Cultural musicians and dancers who entertain us tirelessly year after year in any functions organized by the Community.
